A Short Time in a Dark Room with LED Lights and Mirrors
Infinity Mirrored Room by Yayoi Kusama
At the center of our galaxy, a supermassive black hole
astronomers have named Sagittarius A-Star cannot be
seen by visible light but is detected only by radio waves.
The artist might be trying to recreate our galaxy’s dark
cosmos of disorienting spiraling stars that spins around
the abyss of A-Star or her own hallucinations. Reviewers
suggest she is trying to show how the experience of awe
and insignificance might be closely related. To contemplate
the infinite and one’s own mind requires a vast distance.
Or maybe not. Her exhibits have been called contemporary,
expressionism, experience art, installation art, among others
but they probably best go undefined.
