Wind from the Sea by Andrew Wyeth

Caught

The curtains have caught the wind

making it visible, a tattered movement.

The wind has caught the curtains

turning them into nets that have caught the birds.

The open attic window has caught the field

the woods and the edge of the sea.

The artist has caught it all, every detail.

The artist has caught the eye of the viewer

   making visible the somber moment.

The tempera has caught the muted

   colors of loneliness.

The nonreferential sky has not been caught

but has been allowed to go free.
